OUR FIRST LADY
A beloved, First Lady Gussie M. Starks is a wife of 56 years and counting, mother, grandmother, and great grand mother, a woman given to prayer, and fully equipped to minister to the people of God. For more than 35 years First Lady Starks has worked close by her husband's side as his helpmeet. Additionally she is a spiritual mentor to women throughout the body of faith. She is a prayer warrior, and has led by precept and example.
Saved at the age of 9, she was brought up in a Godly home, She accepted the call to the ministry in 1975 and was licensed as a missionary in 1976. As a young woman she attended Grambling College and Laney College where she majored in music. She graduated from the C.H. Mason Bible college in Oakland, with a focus on Christian Education.
Over the years she has served in various capacities which include, Advisor/Instructor for the local CWC and State Purity President for 19 years under the leadership of National Women's Supervisor, Dr. Mattie McGlothen. She currently serves as president of the State Steering committee and State Purity Auxiliary of the Norcal Metropolitian Jurisdicton under the Supervisor of Women, Mother Plumie O. Dancey and Bishop J.W. Macklin, Prelate.
Since 1993, she has worked in the community at the voting polls. Presently she serves as the Women's Department Director for New Hope COGIC. First Lady
Gussie's life exemplifies the scripture Proverbs 31:29-31. "Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is
vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the Gates.
